Ritah Nakalema

Ritah is a licensed Advocate in Uganda and currently heads the Risk, Compliance, and Governance Practice at the Firm. She routinely advises both international and local clients on regulatory and compliance issues across various sectors, including mergers and acquisitions, financial services, energy, mining, and public-private partnerships. Ritah has previously worked at Baker McKenzie in London through a secondment organized by International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA). She also completed her pupillage at 3 Verulam Buildings and gained experience at Hogan Lovells LLP in London.

Prior to joining the Firm, Ritah served as a Judicial Assistant at the Court of Appeal/Constitutional Court of Uganda. Notable transactions she has advised on include: Standard Chartered Bank PLC in connection with a €255,000,000 commercial and EKN-backed facility to the Government of Uganda for tourism road upgrades; Google on the regulatory implications of its COVID-19 vaccine features and their potential classification as health advertising; Siemens Healthcare GmbH on reviewing its Master Services Agreement and Privacy Policy, including annexes, for compliance with Ugandan law; Amazon on the feasibility of launching Amazon Web Services in Uganda; and Apple on local legal requirements related to data processing and the use of satellite phones in Uganda.
