Ivan holds a Bachelors of Laws Degree (LLB) (Hons) from Makerere University and a Masters of Law specialising in International Development Law from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He is also currently pursuing a PHD in Commercial law at the University of Cape Town. He is qualified to practice law in Uganda and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre. He is also a lecturer at the Department of Commercial Law, Makerere University.

Ivan is admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda. His work encompasses advising and representing clients on commercial disputes, employment and Industrial relations disputes, environmental and conservation law, intellectual property disputes, land disputes, insolvency and security realisation, company law and private international law. Ivan handles matters in all the courts of judicature in Uganda, and is also regularly instructed to appear before specialized dispute resolution tribunals

Recent Experience

  • Advised JC Decaux Group on the Ugandan aspects of the global review of its employment policy and compliance manual.
  • Advised ZF Friedrichchafen AG, a leading global automotive supplier and industry technology provider on the Ugandan aspects of the global review of its internal compliance policy
  • Advised the Uganda Securities Exchange on the comprehensive Human Resource restructuring that entailed a review of the entire portfolio of employee contracts; realigning terms of references, advising of redundancies, benefits and entitlements and liaising with the board and management to mitigate any potential risks that may arise.
  • Advised Metropolitan Republic on a comprehensive review of its Group Human Resources Manual and re – aligning the same with Ugandan law and practice.
  • Advised the local staff members of an international Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company in Uganda on an industrial action undertaken by them especially in light of the interplay between sector specific petroleum laws and general employment laws.
  • Represented Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited on a labor dispute with the a senior employee at the Industrial Court
